About HydroTimor

HydroTimor is the coordinating unit for hydroelectric development in Timor-Leste (East Timor). It is situated in the Ministry for Infrastructure, and is supported by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) through an institutional cooperation.

Present HydroTimor activities include:

Management of the Gariuai Mini Hydroelectric Power Project (Baucau); which will produce 1.5 GWh annually upon completion (November 2008).

Development of theĀ Iralalaru Hydroelectric Power Project (Lautem); which will produce 189 GWh annually upon completion (scheduled to 2012, following international tendering 2009).

Hydrological measurement and assessment for potential new hydroelectric power projects in Atsabe Magapu (Ermera), Bobonaro Aiasa (Bobonaro) and Maliana Bulobo (Bobonaro).

Establishment of a national hydrological network (i.e for measurement of rainfall and of river currents and water levels).

Training of national staff on development, operation and maintenance of small hydroelectric power plants, as well as on hydrology, water management, alternative energy, language and administration.
